The Urge To Cough

I spent a lot of time watching the news. You know, the show that used to come on and share current events, local news, national news? You know, important stuff?

The News has become The Gossip.

I'll deal with it. Whatever.

This week I watched a lot of the news. Not CNN, local-market stuff. It's all about celebrities: Angelina and Brad, Britney and ahole Kevin, and Jennifer Hudson.

I kept feeling this tickle in my throat. I thought it might be a cold coming on because every day it got worse and worse. But then I did something. After Jennifer Hudson complained about American Idol, aka the show that took her from nowhere to Hollywood, I screamed:

GROW UP, ALL OF YOU IDIOTS AND STOP WHINING COMPLAINING BITCHING AND MOANING ABOUT YOUR SO-CALLED "HARD" LIVES THAT I ABSOLUTELY DON'T CARE ABOUT WHEN THERE ARE CHILDREN BEING KIDNAPPED, WOMEN BEING MURDERED AND YOUNG ADULTS DYING FOR THEIR COUNTRY. YOU GOT MORE THAN YOU DESERVE, YOU HAVE LESS-THAN-ZERO CLASS AND I DON'T WANT YOU MORONS TAKING UP TIME ON A NEWS SHOW. TODAY'S CELEBRITIES ARE LIVING PROOF OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TAKE A LOWLIFE, ADD CASH: YOU WIND UP WITH A LOWLIFE WITH CASH.

I did that with one breath.

The tickle in my throat was gone. Fancy that.

  1. You want to cough? I want to puke!!! When the main headlines are about actors and actresses, there is something amiss.

  2. I agree with some of your sentiments...not all. And I do believe that we all (you included) have our "favorites" we don't mind hearing about, even in the news.
I also feel that even though there are "children starving in ...", that people can complain about whatever they want.
Hey, you're complaining about their complaining, ain't ya? Hmmm...somethin' to think about.
Anyway, drink some tea for that throat...and maybe throw a shot in it too! : )

  3. To address that, I do believe that people have the right to complain. My problem isn't so much that they're complaining when all those other things are happening, it's that those crybabies and their bullshit become the headlines, yet a young woman who is raped and murdered merits a paragraph or two way back on page 10. I'd rather my kids catch a news story about a Shuttle mission before a 10-minute segment on Paris Hilton's latest public debacle.
I'm not complaining about the complaining as much as I am about what seems to be a majorly distorted sense of priority in our news reporting.

    And to address that...

I get it now. Thanks for clarifying.

  5. Oh wow... there's still a sane person in this country... I thought I was the only one left. lol

I agree, I'm really sick of celebrities making this kind of news. If I want to know about Brangelina I'll watch E.T. or E! not ABC news at 6 or Fox News or CNN. And when I flip open a paper, I expect the entertainer to be in the ENTERTAINMENT section.

Is that really asking for so much?

  6. Amen, jimmy. Celebs are a bunch of WHINERS. They are so self-involved.....they're world revolves around where they're getting they're hair done and what they're going to wear at the next awards show. Give me a break.

My favorite is when they become some spokesperson for some cause, yet their personal lives are anything but praiseworthy.

AMEN! You said exactly what I say almost daily when the "news" does not REPORT the NEWS! It happens on ALL news channels and it sickens me. Wasn't that WHY Entertainment tonight was created? or E! EnterTAINMENT Television?

For those who give a flying crap about stars whose lives - in most opinions are more important than their own (based on their overwhelming idolization and/or determination to "be" or "look" like their favorite star)

or are more important to them than the lives of others in serious need.

It's totally gotten out of control and I'm glad you said it AND blogged it :)
