I AM NOT A GIRL! Well...

So yeah, I got called a girl. If that were true, mind you, I'd be a pretty hideous-looking girl, seeing that I'm 6'4 235 pounds and the proud owner of facial hair that needs to be shaved twice a day if I don't want to look scruffy. Not exactly "America's Next Top Model" material.

So why this assault on my masculinity? A Crock-pot.

Yeah, a Crock-pot. What a crock!

There is a group of people, family and friends, that I exchange gifts with at birthdays, Christmastime, etc. And we've taken to using wish lists to accomodate that task. I love a wish list because I know if I buy anything for someone using their list, it's something they want, so I usually can't mess it up.

Now my take on gifts is, the items are things that I want, but just won't buy for myself. Indulgences, you might say. And while I've always enjoyed eating meals prepared in a crock-pot, I've never gotten one for myself. It's something I'd like, but, well, you know...

I had left my wish list open on my computer earlier. I had just replaced an out-of-date crock-pot that was no longer available with one that is. I gots me a birthday coming up soon! My friend stopped by and she asked to use my laptop. I was in the other room when I heard, "This is your wish list?"

"Yeah, why?"

"You're such a GIRL! Look at this stuff!"

She proceeded to call out every item that she considered "girly". All cooking-related items. I would hardly think that would qualify me as a female (Emeril isn't a girl, right?)

But, anyway, I guess I better go out and go to the hardware store or something. Maybe spit or scratch myself or something.

I'd just love to have that crock-pot, you know?

Alright, who's singing "I Feel Pretty" wise guys?

  1. I'm a little curious; what else is on that list?

As long as you don't have things like makeup, a blowdryer, or scented lotions on that wish list.

I have a crock-pot and I don't even use it. It would help if I knew how.

Let me just tell ya ok? Well, it ain't girly to want to cook a decent meal and it aint girly to take an interest in cooking. All the best chefs are men, not women! So tell yer mate to stick that commment where the sun don't shine ;-)

  3. LOL-Kristen, I could help you out with that one if you want. It'd probably come in handy after a long day at school to come home to a meal all ready to eat :D

And I have to say my dad is a man's man loves the Tim Allen/Home Improvement kind of power tools with the best of them, used to tell me to eat my vegetables because it would put hair on my chest, etc. etc. And he's the one who taught me how to cook. So there :P

A crock pot is a great gift. Not very expensive either. Next time your nosy neighbor teases you about your tastes in cookware, remind her that there are more world class male chefs than female.

  8. My hubby is a better cook than I am. He's the one who talked me into buying "the family" a gorgeous set of red Cuisinart cookware for Christmas, because our old cookware was so dreadful. Does this make him a girl? I DON'T THINK SO!

    "I feel pretty...oh,so pretty..."

    Hahahaha! :D

  12. Ha! NOW I'm singing I'm so Pretty.

AND, it is NOT girly. My husband wanted a fondu pot forever, so I got him one from Tupperware. When we're together, we use it at least once a week! Or every other weekend! He loves to cook... and well... I love that! lol

  13. Hey, cooking isn't girly - this is 2008, not 1958 - and dunno what else was on the list, but hasn't your friend heard of metrosexuals?

Great idea to have a wish list. I'm going to start on mine right now.

Oh and when is your birthday???? :)

  20. I love my crock-pot. Use it constantly. You should definitely get one, and never give that friend one bite of whatever you cook!

    Cause I'm nice like that.

    Cooking is the best foreplay!

It's tiring that people still consider some things "women's work" and "men's work". Why did cooking become a chick's thing anyway? I would love to be with a guy who cooks! The "friend" who made that comment would nevah, evah eat a meal I cooked! :P

And the comment about the brownie pan that has edges on every piece, that is SUCH a cool gadget! Yum! Now i gotta go make me some brownies! hehehe

  29. That is so silly. Whenever we need gravy, I turn the broth over to my husband to make it. I make paste and he makes DELICIOUS gravy ; )

I agree with gazker--all the best chefs are men ; )
