Recollections of 9.11.01

I have shared my recollections of September 11th, 2001, for a few years on an AOL Journal. That forum can no longer be trusted (my journal was lost now for the 2nd time), so I decided to post it on my own webspace.

Just a note, it's a long story, so I decided not to post it here in the Blog main page. If you'd like to read it, it can be found here.

I've never known anyone that actually was there, on Manhattan, that day. Thank you for sharing your story with us and Thank God you came out of that experience safely.

  4. Excellent, well organized memorial. The images are still upsetting to view.
I never knew your story about 911, I never knew how close you were to the towers & how you experienced that tragedy first hand.
"Recollections of 9.11.01" was well written & very emotional, thank you for sharing it.
I don't know what else to say...all I want to do is give you a hug & thank God you came out of it in one piece.

  5. You know I have tears in my eyes right now......I wasn't in the city that day. Somehow I can't help think it hit us New Yorkers a little harder than the rest. It was too close for comfort, too close to home. I for one am forever grateful you went home the night before......I would of lost a very dear friend, of whom I might never of had a chance to meet. Even if it is only online....(Hugs) Indigo

  6. Jimmy... no words babe... I really don't know what to say... I had to stop reading halfway through from crying. I cry every year and every time I see pictures, but it's the stories that get me the most.

Will has only told me once what it was like for him... He was just walking into school when the first plane hit. He was 16 at the time. I won't go over it, it's his story. And I doubt he'll ever really write about it, it's too hard for him.

Thank you for writing this, for showing the people you lost as well. It was beautifully written.

  7. The worst thing was trying to get ahold of my friends in lower Manhattan.
    Thanks for the story.

Thank God you were okay. As horrific an experience as it was for those of us elsewhere in the country, I have to agree with Indigo that it must have felt like the city itself was a close family member being attacked.

I'm struck by how wonderful you were to the woman who jumped on your back. In the midst of your personal confusion and terror, you were compassionate toward another who was clearly out of her mind with fear.

You're true blue, Jimmy. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. xoxo

  9. I remember being horrified just watching it on TV. I can't imagine even being there.

I can tell it has had quite an effect on you--as a worker, as a father, as an individual. Thanks for sharing your story.

    Hi Jimmy,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't think anyone will ever be the same after 9-11, but for you -- caught in the middle of it -- it must have been especially terrible. What a tragedy.
