No Place Like...

I feel as though my faith is really being tested lately, for a lot of reasons I really won't subject you to here today. I just know that the world hasn't been doing the right thing. I can deal with my own stuff, it just really kills me to know that my kids are hurting for any reason. But, like I said, not today.

During the week I had to run a mission that was pretty involved, and I decided to spend the night at my parents' house for the layover. Funny, I'm a big boy, and I get through day-to-day, but there was nothing like the feeling of going to bed under my parents' roof. No matter what has been going on, I knew for at least that night, the world wouldn't mess with me anymore. It was a welcome relief. And the nice, hot breakfast I woke up to (imagine a 3-course breakfast!) wasn't too hard to take either, believe me.

I left their house rejuvenated that morning. Thanks, Mom and Dad.

  2. Although things have not been all "peachy"...you are very fortunate to be able to get that safe feeling from your parents.

You're even more fortunate to have the gratitude.

  3. There's nothing better than to be back home where it seems the cares of the world can disappear....if only for a moment.
It's always such a nice feeling to be back at home!

Yes, you are very lucky to have your parents. There are days that I just want to cry"I want my mama!". And so often I can hardly wait to tell them something----and sometimes I do in dreams or just in my head! Barb

Jimmy, I am so glad you were blessed with that feeling of security even for just one night. Our shoulders carry a lot of burdens around but if for one night we can rest our shoulder on the bed of our youth...ah! Heaven!

  8. Isn't that the truth? Mine are close by too, and it's such a blessing.

And nothing beats home-cooked meals, prepared by someone else ;-)

  10. I think Anne put it wonderfully, I'm glad you got a little time out! We need to have that safe place to turn to, when we REALLY need it and I'm so glad you have it at your parents house! Oh a hot 3 course breakfast...bring it on!

    Hi Jimmy,
You're so right ... there's no place like home. For my part, I never find a three course breakfast when I go home -- more like bagels and coffee -- but there's always lots of love to go around!
    Best,
    Marty

Totally understand...there's nothing like mom and dad to make us feel safe again. That safety net, that will catch us no matter what. From what you've said about your parents, and what I know about you...its no wonder you are who you are. They did a wonderful job raising you :) Take care...

Who says, "You can never go home!" Well, maybe not permanently, but it's sure nice to have that safe haven once in a while. You are ever so fortunate that you have parents to go home to. My mother died when I was 24, and my step father could have cared less.
It was nice reading about how warm, safe and loved you felt while staying with your parents!

  15. I know that feeling. I think once you remarry you get that feeling back. To live with someone is to be HOME again. I miss that security, I miss being home~

Maybe I can send this entry to my long lost son! I need him to come home for a bit. He's not being a bad son - just he lives east coast and I'm west coast. ::sigh:: I NEED my son in his bed too.

    Nothing like home.

Wishing only good things for you.

  17. I can only hope after everything my daughter and I have been through together, someday she comes to that same understanding. I know since her accident, I can't sleep when she goes out till I know she is safely back again. I'm sure your parents where breathing a slight "sigh" having you home again , even for just a night. Going home, finding peace, letting go of the worries, fears, and frustrations that seek to invade our daily lives... What a blessing!

Wishing you many more in the days to come.

  21. I think it's so much harder to watch someone you love hurt than to actually experience the hurt yourself. I'm so sorry your kids are hurting. It's no coincidence that when you needed it, your parents were there to lend you strength. I'm sure there will also be people placed in your children's lives who can lend them strength as well.

I imagine some of the hardest times in life are when your kids need strength and it's not you who can give it to them. As a parent that's our job, right?

I have a little (15 year old) girl at church who is really, really, really struggling to emotionally survive this life. Her parents have done everything in their power to help her and nothing has helped. All of a sudden last month all sorts of dominos fell into place and I stumbled upon someone who really could help her.

I guess that's how I think faith works. We put our trust in the Lord to either give us the ability to help those we love ourselves or trust that He will put someone in our path who can help if we are unable.
