A friend of mine asked me if I'd watched the CBS show "Kid Nation" this week. I hadn't. I saw one episode, and that was enough.
For anyone who isn't quite familiar with the premise of the show, a group of kids were brought to a town where they would be filmed while living without adult supervision or intervention (other than for obvious safety and security reasons). The show follows these kids as they live in a "world" that they rule.
The show isn't doing too well in the ratings. In fact, I don't know anyone who watches it. I think CBS missed the mark here. A show about kids running the world, doing what they want to, by their own rules? Fellas, that's not a show. That's what a lot of us see way too much of in the real world, thanks. I'm not going to add an hour of that kind of torture to my world on purpose!
I haven't seen that show. I don't think that I can. To be honest, I don't know of anyone who does watch it. Hmm....
ReplyDeleteI watch it religiously! Guess I'm the only one :) The kids on the show have really come a long way from where they were in the beginning. They've matured, and have coped well. Most have anyway. I don't think it'll be back for a second season.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding this show just before it began, so I watched (or tried to watch) two epidsodes in the beginning. I wasn't impressed, and felt the children were of course scripted (as they should be - seeing their so very young and shouldn't be doing this kind of thing anyway...) and badly, I might add. And the plot was just dull. Perhaps I didn't give it enough of a chance, but I'm just not willing to be pulled into sensationalism surrounding young children.

Yeah It never appealed to me either. Of course, I am not a reality show person in general.

Like you, I watched the first episode. I didn't watch more, except the snippets that passed by as I jumped channel to channel to see if the thing were really worth watching - not a good show. I would never allowed my kid to be part of it. Ah well . . . on to the Discovery Channels.

ReplyDeleteI completely get the controversy. And I'm completely addicted all the same. Kinda like how I feel when I (reluctantly and embarrassingly) watch The Bachelor!
