Nostalgia

I think that nostalgia will do us some good when we look ahead to what's coming at the end of this year, with all the global market crises that are sure to unfold because of the irresponsibility of CEO's like Stan O'Neal at Merrill Lynch and Richard Fuld at Lehman Bros., who will continue to reassure investors right up to the minute where Lehman closes its doors. And after decades of being a major player, Merrill Lynch will disappear without a whimper.

I'm trying to imagine how much the world is going to change before 2009 gets a chance to come in the door. We've come to accept that the Dow being at 10,000 or higher is a right or a privilege. What's going to happen when we see it bouncing off 8000 in October?

We'll see just how ineffective our Government has become, and how clueless they are, Republican or Democrat. We'll hear, time and time again, how the economy is sound...right until the ship sinks. Our world will not be the same. We'll just have to see how capable the rescue teams are when its time to pick up the survivors.

In the meantime, maybe we ought to turn off CNBC and tune into the Care Bears, American Idol (yes I watch that, no making fun). If you're still watching the Ticker come October, let me know when you've had enough. I'll be an expert on cartoons...I can tell you which ones to watch.

I've grown up with technology. It is pretty much the only world I have known. As far as classic cartoons, the Care Bears reminds me of my sister, that is a nickname we have had for her. My fav cartoon was the Smurfs and I was nicknamed Smurfette for a while there. Shhhh don't tell anyone LOL. Hope you have a happy weekend you very nice person you!!

  2. Love the care bears. I miss old cartoons. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the new stuff is garbage.

And somehow my efforts to simplify my life to the point where I can enjoy the magic of a simple light bulb just aren't working. I liked this thought. I'm too busy with unimportant stuff, I think.

  3. So if we can't make fun of you for watching American Idol, can we make fun of you for watching Care Bears? ;-)

Dude, I miss the old cartoons. I like Allison LOVED the Smurfs; and the Chipmunks, Tom & Jerry, Thundercats, Ducktales, and even GIJoe. Those were the good old days.

I remember the simpler times. Heck, I even remember when the samllest computer in the world took up a full city block. Wait! I even remember when there were NO computers, LOL. How ancient is that? I wax nostalgic, too, when it comes to seeing the old familiar cartoons. You won't see me laughing at you. Go ahead, watch and enjoy!

  9. ROFLMAO....why am I not surprised that you are sitting there watching cartoons? My favorite cartoon was underdog and now they've gone and spoiled it with computer animation. What is the world coming too?

  11. Yes, I, too remember the simpler times. I am grateful for so much of the new technology, but like you miss those simpler times. (I do not miss dialing phone numbers with a rotary dial???)

I loved the old cartoons--my daughter loved The Care Bears.

My favorite toy? The classic tape recorder. I would tape everything, from myself singing or reciting an entire play to songs off the radio, to my favorite cartoons!

Oh, and my favorite cartoons? My earliest recollections are: Super Friends (with The Wonder Twins), Popeye, The Flintstones, Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo. As I matured, I certainly enjoyed Carebears, The Smurfs and The Jetsons!

Thanks for taking me back in time for a moment!

Nostalgia for me is when you dial a company for some good old fashion customer service and a real person answers. Better yet is when they speak English as a first language.
